Intended to represent the freedom and liberation of women, this pastel on canvas depiction uses vibrant colors against a charcoal outline. The background is a canvas type commonly used by pastel artists to promote the grainy nature of a pastel stroke. These two materials create a feeling of proper texture to the subject, the back ground behind being very delicately shaded to add depth. This drawing is all about beauty and form and intentionally focuses color in the lower body and a monotone in the head and hair to show the mind and body separate but communicates the freedom of both in the overall pose. The image was used as a bottle and box label for a wine merchant.
